Malaysia’s National Challenge #2 – 90% of Civil Service Workforce are Bumiputera and only 10% are Non-Bumiputera
#AskMANI

As at *December 2014, the ethnic composition of the civil service are as follows:

78.8% Malays (Bumiputera)
6.1% Bumiputera Sabah
4.8% Bumiputera Sarawak
0.3% Other Bumiputera
5.2% Chinese
4.1% Indians
0.7% Others

The government needs to seriously address these glaring disparities in the ethnic composition of our workforce in civil service to reduce inequalities in sharing of national opportunities in the civil service among the ethnic minorities especially the Chinese and the Indians.

It is important for the recruitment policy of civil service to support and cater for ethnic balance. Deliberate measures need to be put in place, in order for our civil service to have a face of Malaysia.

Source of ethnic composition: Bernama – *Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim updated parliament in March 2016.
